We are all radio stations
Published by Nick Hall on 28 July 2009.As of this past Friday night, I am officially on Twitter. I have 20 or so followers, some of whom have sexy names with numbers after them. I've been told to block them, but really, what's the harm?
Others are far more intriguing. For example, I have the authors of the book The Power of Small (Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval). I also have Kathy Burns, our fearless and wonderful growth consultant, a british comedian posing a his own wife, and a host of other interesting people that appeal to my various interests as a creative and business professional. Needless to say, these people have far more interesting things to say than I, so I'm avidly following them as well.
Despite having only 140 precious characters with which to create a missive, I am amazed at the diversity of tweets I receive. Many are simply retweets of something someone else said, and even more are links to something I rarely have time to pursue. While often helpful, I find these ones void of any real personality, and me being me, I tend to flutter to the ones that offer insight into the person doing the writing.
I have to say my favourites are the ones that contain a new idea or insight, or even a personal spin on an existing or newly discovered idea. We are, after all, people - not an RSS feed.
If you care to follow me, I will endeavour to make it worth your while (most of the time). I can be found at www.twitter.com/nickpicking
